The Ionian Revolt people say, was the start of the First Persian War. The Greco-Persian Wars were a sequence of wars fought between the great empire of Persia and the coalition of the Greek cities. This lasted about half a decade. 488 BC to 488 BC. The Ionian Revolt initiated the First Major Persian War around Cyrus the Great Persia and most of the West Asia. During his reign his first capture was Lydia. This lies along the cost of Anatolia. The cities that depended on Lydia instantly became helpless. After Cyrus had done this, his next move was to capture all of those cities. The residents of these cities then were called Ionians. Today, Ionia is based in Modern Turkey. Cyrus was known as a very cruel leader. Cyrus had increased the taxes and appointed tyrants in these regions, after he had taken over. Cyrus had a son who was named Cambyses. His son supported him, and he also captured Egypt and some of the Greek islands between Anatolia and Greece also. This was the most important one being the island of Samos. After a while, Darius who was Cambyses son became king. Darius attacked the Scythians, but lost. After that he along with his army and went back to Persia. After a while, Macedon accepted a peace treaty with Persia in 510 BC. Once Persia decided to attack Naxos, Aristagoras was appointed to lead in the battle. Aristagoras was a tyrant of Miletus known to be close to the king of Persia. The Persians had lost though. After the war happened and they lost, the Persia occupied Greek city-states to revolt. This was known as the Ionian Revolt. The lonians were defeated in the Battle of Lade. This battle occurred in 494 BC. This revolt lasted for about half a decade.
